WHO IS ELIGIBLE?


You will be eligible for our services if you are:

# aged 65 years and older and have difficulity preparing your own meals;

# an Aboriginal person aged 55 years and older and have difficulity preparing your own meals;

# younger than 65 years and have a disability; or

# a carer for someone who is elderly or has a disability.

You are welcome to use our service on a short or long term basis. A referral can come from anyone including yourself, relatives, friends, neighbours, hospital or a doctor.

We will phone or visit you to talk about the services we provide and to assess your needs.

Cost:
The cost of meals varies from service to service but ranges from $3.50 to $6.60 per meal.

Arrangements are made with each service for the payment of accounts.

What meals are available?

Each service provides a range of different meals.

Some services cook their own meals while others source meals from local suppliers.

All meals comply with standards recommended by the NSW Meals on Wheels Association and are designed to provide people with a nutritionally balanced meal. The meal is a 'dinnertime' size and is intended to be the main meal of the day, whether eaten for lunch or dinner.

Special diets such as diabetes, gluten free, coelia, vegetarian and chewing or swallowing difficulties can be catered for.

Each meal usually includes a main meal and dessert.

Some services provide fruit juice and/or soup in winter.

Referral Support and Information
We provide referrals and information on a range of other services.

North Shoalhaven Meals on Wheels is funded by Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care (DADHC) through the Home and Community Care Program (HACC).  This funding supports reimbursement of volunteer’s fuel costs incurred delivering meals.
